New Kvaser M.2 PCIe xCAN board expands configuration flexibility

Kvaser’s new M.2 PCIe xCAN main board (01818‑1) brings a fresh level of flexibility to compact CAN/CAN FD system design. Replacing the fixed‑configuration M.2 PCIe 4xCAN (01333‑9), this cableless main board pairs with the new Kvaser Flex DB9 CAN/CAN FD cables (01821‑1), sold separately, to deliver up to four distributed CAN/CAN FD channels to your system.

Designed for space‑constrained and embedded environments, the xCAN board comes in a 22 × 80 mm format with a break‑away section that lets you adapt it to either 80 mm or 60 mm M.2 slots. Each Flex DB9 cable connects the board to a single CAN channel, allowing developers to configure one, two, three, or four channels depending on the application. The result is a highly modular, space‑efficient platform that adapts to a wide range of system layouts.

Commenting on the release, Thomas Roberts, CCO of Kvaser, said:

“We’ve listened to our customers and retained the strengths of the M.2 PCIe 4xCAN, such as placing the CAN transceivers close to the CAN networks to maximise signal quality and integrity. At the same time, we’ve reimagined the packaging to deliver scalable, high-performance CAN/CAN FD connectivity in a more flexible format.”

As part of this transition, the previous M.2 PCIe 4xCAN model is being phased out, with existing customers already informed and supported through the change. The new xCAN platform offers a more versatile foundation for future designs while maintaining the reliability and performance expected from Kvaser hardware.
