Kvaser’s February 2025 Software Release

Kvaser CanKing 7.1 supports LIN and adds J1939 interpretation and CAN Message Replay

Kvaser adds LIN support to Kvaser CanKing 7.1, allowing users to monitor and analyze both LIN* and CAN bus traffic and making CanKing a comprehensive tool for mixed network environments. Capabilities include parsing of LIN Description Files (LDF files). A new J1939 Protocol Interpreter allows users to visualize the J1939 components of the CAN frame identifier. Meanwhile, a CAN Message Replay feature replays CAN/CAN FD log files.

Other improvements in Kvaser CanKing 7.1 include enhancements to the CAN Send and Periodic CAN Send views, and the Traffic Generator node. Users can now visualize the DLC and data length in the Message Trace and update the CAN message data and settings in the Periodic CAN Send view while running. DBC file information can be used when specifying the CAN frame and data to be transmitted in CAN Send and Periodic CAN Send views.

Other notable additions include:

  • CANlib SDK (V3.31.841): A bug related to CAN FD frames not being converted correctly has been fixed, ensuring that all data bytes will be shown in software applications.
  • J2534 DLL: This driver now sends ISO-TP messages with the correct formatting, thanks to a fix to PassThruStartPeriodicMsg.
  • Firmware for Kvaser Memorator, Kvaser Hybrid* and Kvaser USBcan devices (V3.34.306): Random number generation has been improved, and there’s new support for Kvaser Memorator hardware revisions.
  • Kvaser PCIEcan 8xCAN firmware (V1.19.774): Enhanced stability for high loads.
  • Kvaser CAN Extcap (V1.0): Timestamps for our Wireshark plugin now start from the current time.
  • SocketCAN driver (V1.19.774): SocketCAN has been significantly improved. We recommend that all users download a modern kernel.

*Please note that users of Kvaser Hybrid CAN/LIN, Kvaser Hybrid 2xCAN/LIN, Kvaser Hybrid Pro CAN/LIN and the Kvaser Hybrid Pro 2xCAN/LIN will need to update their firmware before using LIN functionality. An external 1kOhm pullup was being activated by the slave instead of the master, but the firmware update provides a fix. Please email support@kvaser.com for help with this issue.
