Kvaser’s September 2026 Software Release

The September 2026 Software Release introduces a new cross-platform DBC Editor, remote connectivity in CanKing, enhanced Automotive Ethernet diagnostics for Kvaser Arcus users, and new configuration tools for RP1210C and J2534 users. There’s also a firmware update for the Kvaser Edge, allowing it to be used as a USB to CAN interface right out of the box.

New software includes:

Kvaser DBC Editor (7.0.0) – Now with Linux support, Kvaser’s new DBC Editor adds features such as database consistency checking, bit position visualization, Dark and Light display modes, anonymous export and extended multiplexed signal support. It also adds language support for Chinese, Japanese, and German.

J2534 05.00 PassThru API (1.0.0) – Compliant with J2534-1 revision 05.00 for CAN and ISO15765 (ISO-TP) protocols, this API provides a straightforward route for developing and testing diagnostic applications using Kvaser hardware. It can be installed alongside Kvaser’s existing J2534 04.04 implementation. Currently, support is provided for a single CAN channel and does not yet include CAN FD.

Notable changes to existing software include:

Kvaser CanKing 7 Service (7.6.0) – CanKing 7.6 introduces CanKing Service for secure remote and headless operation. By installing CanKing Service in a targeted remote test environment, users can monitor live CAN and LIN bus data on their local computer without being on site. CanKing Service works on any computer running CanKing 7.6, including Windows-to-Windows and Windows-to-Linux configurations.

CANlib SDK (5.53) – The latest CANlib release introduces several important improvements for engineers working with DBC, LDF and MDF4 files. Updates to the Kvadblib library include: support for extended multiplexing in DBC files; support for multiple transmitter nodes per message (BO_TX_BU_); support for named value tables (VAL_TABLE_); and for byte-array signals in LDF files.

Enhancements to the Kvlclib MDF4 signal writer improve data quality and storage efficiency by ensuring logs are only generated when signals contain data. Additional time zone information is now recorded, and support for LIN signals has been added.

CANlib Drivers (5.53) – A new time synchronisation utility for Windows, kvtimesync.exe, has been added for users who require highly accurate timestamp correlation across multiple PCIe interfaces. The service correlates frame timestamps from different PCIe interfaces with up to 10 microsecond precision and works across all Kvaser PCIe interfaces. It starts automatically at system boot but can be disabled through Windows Services. Stable operation is maintained – even when interfaces are bus-on – by adjusting frequency rather than stepping clocks. This functionality provides a Windows equivalent to LinuxPTP-based synchronisation workflows and can be particularly valuable in test environments where precise timing correlation is required.

Kvaser CL Configuration Tool (1.1.0) and Kvaser CL SDK (0.4.0) – Users of Kvaser Arcus can now benefit from an updated version of the Kvaser CL Configuration Tool available for both Windows and Linux, simplifying setup and management of Kvaser’s Automotive Ethernet interface. Find out more here.

Alongside the configuration tool, the updated CL SDK adds a range of advanced diagnostics and testing capabilities, including Ethernet and T1 Ethernet loopback testing, packet generation on Ethernet and T1 Ethernet networks, T1 Ethernet cable testing, and signal Quality Index (SQI) and Mean Square Error (MSE) monitoring.

Kvaser RP1210C API (6.1.0) – Following the introduction of the RP1210C API in the May 2026 release, version 6.1.0 adds a dedicated configuration tool to simplify interface management, with optional commands for changing baud rate settings and configuring exclusive access to interfaces. A Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) and third-party licence list are included to support compliance and software transparency requirements.

Kvaser Edge Firmware (1.2.0) – Using this firmware version, Kvaser Edge devices in their factory-reset state will appear as standard Kvaser USB to CAN interfaces, giving engineers instant access to CAN communication without first installing an application. When an application is later installed, CAN handling is managed by the application.
