Understanding how J1939 works can be complicated. Whether you’re an engineer doing ‘test and measurement’ on a truck, or a system designer doing development, it can be challenging to understand how all the aspects of the SAE J1939 spec fit together.
In this webinar, Bryan Hennessy will give an introductory level overview of the J1939 collection of SAE standards from the SAE Truck Bus Control and Communications Committee.
Bryan is a Kvaser Field Applications Engineer but also is a long-time member of the SAE J1939 standards committee, current chairing the “NexGen” task force.
Bryan’s background in the test and measurement industry coupled with a broad knowledge of CAN (the foundation of J1939) will provide a helpful context for understanding the fundamentals of J1939.
Here are the topics we will cover:
- An explanation of the abstraction layer concept
- Examples of each layer
- The use of DBC files
- Diagnostics and HD-OBD
- Plus, some answers to the question ‘What’s all that other stuff on my data bus?’
