Introducing the Kvaser PCIe 4xLIN for next-level LIN connectivity

The Kvaser PCIe 4xLIN is a new four‑channel LIN interface for PCI Express, built for engineers who need reliable, timestamp‑accurate LIN communication inside desktop, industrial, or HIL systems.

Combining galvanic isolation, precise timing, and advanced synchronization, the Kvaser PCIe 4xLIN comes in a compact PCIe form factor. Designed for automotive and industrial applications, it helps developers and test engineers capture accurate data, simplify analysis, and scale from single-node testing to more complex distributed systems.

Faster integration with existing tools

Compatible with applications built on Kvaser LINlib, the PCIe 4xLIN drops into existing workflows without requiring software changes. Applications developed for other Kvaser LIN hardware can run without modification, helping teams move quickly between projects and interfaces.

The Kvaser PCIe 4xLIN supports both Windows and Linux and works with the Kvaser CANlib SDK, including APIs and examples for C, C++, C#, Python, Delphi, and Visual Basic.

Like our other PCIe interfaces, the Kvaser PCIe 4xLIN is straightforward to deploy in existing systems. The interface installs directly in a PCI Express slot and is powered through the host system, reducing cabling and simplifying integration in compact systems and test racks.

Typical applications include ECU development, automotive body electronics, HIL testing, multi-channel logging, and industrial LIN communication systems.

Reliable multi-channel LIN communication

The Kvaser PCIe 4xLIN provides four fully featured and individually galvanically isolated LIN channels through a single low-profile PCIe card, giving engineers an efficient way to monitor and test multiple LIN networks from one interface.

FPGA-based Kvaser LIN-IP technology enables LIN communication up to 20 kbaud with 1 µs timestamp resolution. This allows developers to capture timing-sensitive events with high precision and improve visibility during debugging and validation.

The interface also supports simultaneous operation with multiple Kvaser interfaces, allowing teams to expand test setups as system complexity grows.

Accurate timing across systems with Kvaser TimeSync

The Kvaser PCIe 4xLIN supports Kvaser software-based TimeSync, helping engineers maintain synchronized timestamps across multiple interfaces and systems.

In distributed test environments, synchronized timing makes it easier to correlate events across LIN and CAN networks, reduce manual log analysis, and improve traceability during validation and troubleshooting.

For Linux users, the interface exposes a PHC (PTP Hardware Clock) device that can synchronize to a shared host-referenced clock source using standard tools such as phc2sys.

Combined with 1 µs timestamp precision, this gives teams a reliable foundation for synchronized logging, automated testing, and accurate event analysis across connected systems.

Built for industrial and embedded systems

The low-profile PCIe design fits a wide range of industrial and embedded systems and includes both short and long mounting brackets for flexible installation.

The interface operates in temperatures from -40 °C to +85 °C and provides four LIN channels through a single 26-pin HD D-SUB connector, helping teams build compact and reliable test systems for demanding environments.
