User Groups

One of the more efficient ways to increase your long term performance within the CAN area, is to participate in the work carried out within a users’ groups that works well. Even when you are not actively contributing to the work, the user’s groups are in general good sources of information. Visiting conferences is another good way of getting comprehensive and relevant information.

There are a number of user groups open for those who use CAN in industrial applications. There are mainly two kinds of user groups:

  • User Groups connected to a specific higher layer protocol (HLP), e.g. ODVA for DeviceNet.
  • User Groups for a specific application, such as CANHUG for hydraulic applications.

The user groups generally aim to distribute information regarding available products, standardize e.g. data formats for information sent over a CAN bus etc. User Groups also provide the possibility of exchanging information and experiences between members in a more or less formal manner.
Here are some CAN Users Groups:

Mailing Lists

canlist is a mailing list discussing CAN-related issues. For more information, see www.canlist.org.

Newsgroups

There are at least two (usenet) newsgroups with more or less frequent CAN-related discussions:

Usenet groups are available from your nearest NNTP server, or, with a web interface, from Google Groups.
