Considerations for System Design
CAN XL supports three different types of CAN drivers. The legacy CAN drivers which support bitrates up to 1 Mbit/s, now legacy SIC drivers developed for CAN FD which support up to 10 Mbit/s, and the new CAN XL SIC drivers which can reportedly support up to 30 Mbit/s. While CAN XL supports communicating with these drivers, the improvements of switching to push-pull mode and the higher bit rates requires the CAN XL drivers.
While XL SIC drivers can help a great deal in getting to these higher bit rates, the peak of your throughput may be limited by general impedance variations. This can be from having long drop lines, drop lines close together such as in clusters or EMC filters on attached nodes.
