Finnish rally team Vuotari Racing is using detailed CAN analysis to provide post-test evaluations of the carβs performance and detailed driver feedback.
Vuotariβs set-up comprises a Kvaser Leaf Pro v2 OBDII, plugged under the dash of TK Engineering-employee Maria-Teresa Vuotariβs Honda Civic Type R. This is connected to a PC running both TKEΒ΄s CANtrace CAN data collection software and Zuragonβs ViCANdo data collection software. In addition to CAN, the latter records video and audio signals, which are displayed in trace and graph views and can be exported to various formats. For post-testing analysis and CAN monitoring, TKEβs CANtrace decodes and plots the CAN messages, whilst Zuragonβs ViCANdo gives the team access to associated video and audio recording from the test run.
Commented Vuotari Racing driver, Maria-Teresa:
βCombined data from CAN, audio and video help me to choose the best racing line and braking points, as well as improve my ability to interpret the road profile. In rally tests I can drive the same stage many times and then compare different driving styles and car setups.β
Motorsport is an uncommon application for TKE and Zuragonβs software, which was designed primarily for Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) development. However, this kind of post-test analysis is crucial in many automotive-related sectors, where access to combined data from multiple networks and sensors is proving highly useful.
